Doctrine – The Word Believed
Though doctrine is a word with a bad reputation, it is really just a summary of belief. Christian doctrine should be the things that are taught with clarity by the Scriptures regarding Jesus, salvation, the nature and personhood of God, our state before God, etc.
Every person (let alone every church or group of people!) has doctrines they subscribe to. Do you believe in karma? That’s a doctrine. Do you believe God just wants us to be kind to one another? That’s a doctrine too. How about, “Only the good die young” or “You reap what you sow?” Yep, that’s doctrine.
We have doctrines we believe too. Lutherans have a practice of assembling these convictions into statements of faith, statements often called confessions. A confession is a self-accusation. A person who confesses says to the whole world, “Yes; this is what I believe, say, or do.”
Below are a few of the things we believe. Take time to prayerfully consider the following links with a Bible open beside you, and if you have any questions, please contact us by email or phone so we can partner with you in discussion and your spiritual growth!
